Notes from the Winemaker:
Eye : Ruby red with red vermillion tints.
Nose : Small red fruits, blackberry and floral violet aromas. Intensely aromatic, powerful but full of finesse.
Palate : Supple with balance between the finesse of the aromas and an explosive richness due to the concentration of the wine. Greatly expressive of the terroir.
Overall : A feminine wine with voluptuous silky texture and intense aromas.
Ratings & Reviews
(99-100) Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate:
“Scheduled to be bottled in early February of next year (the La Mouline is the first of the single vineyard releases to be bottled), the 2010 Cote Rotie La Mouline is certainly in the same league. More fresh and focused, with heavenly black raspberry, wild flower, underbrush, crushed rock-like minerality and hints of vanilla, it flows onto the palate with a seamless, pure silk texture that carries awesome concentration, ultra-fine tannin and incredible length. It will need more cellar time than the 2009, and have 2-3 decades of prime drinking.” -Jeb Dunnuck (Dec 2013)
95-96 Points – Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar:
“Vivid purple. Sexy aromas of blueberry liqueur, incense and vanillin oak, with a bright mineral overtone. Youthful black and blue fruit flavors show excellent depth and are sharpened by juicy acidity and a hint of Asian spices. Finishes with bitter chocolate and floral nuances, supple tannins and intense minerality. Elegant, as is typical for this bottling, but showing a surprising dark-fruit character that I don’t usually expect from La Mouline.” -Josh Raynolds (Mar/Apr 14)
99 Points – Wine Spectator Magazine:
“This smolders from the start, with Turkish coffee and warm ganache notes out front, backed by steeped currant, warmed fig and Black Forest cake flavors. The well-structured finish is layered with charcoal and mesquite notes, revealing bay leaf and chestnut details in the background. Offers terrific density, cut and range. Drapes like velvet
despite the heft and structure. Best from 2017 through 2040. 400 cases made.” – JM (Oct 15, 2014)
