Notes from the Winemaker:
The result of an accurate selection of grapes from the Einaudi vineyard in Barolo. A great wine of the Langa, garnet red with a shade of amber, of intense and embracing fragrance, full bodied but smooth tannic taste, with a long spiced final taste. Derived from the Nebbiolo grapes from the Costa Grimaldi vineyard owned by the Einaudi estate, facing Barolo. The tannic characteristics guarantee a long life in bottle. With time it acquires complexity as the ethereal aromas of spices, truffles and leather.
The annual production is of 7.000 bottles.
Winemaking:
Fermented in steel tanks under strict temperature control (30°C-32°C), post-fermentation maceration, racked after 22/25 days, decanted, then gotten induced malolactic treatment and completed always at a controlled temperature. Matured in oak casks for many months, then a long refinement in bottles.

Ratings & Reviews
“Compared to the Cannubi cru, the 2015 Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi is much more structured and rich. At 45 years old, these are the estate’s oldest vines at work (the youngest ones are used for the Barolo Ludo), producing a tannic but nicely balanced and approachable Barolo. There are strongly present earth tones in this vintage, such as freshly tilled soil, and as it opens you’ll discover more sweet spice and chocolate as well.” – Monica Larner (28th Jun 2019)
94 Points – James Suckling:
“There’s a wealth of ripe and rich fruit here that makes a convincing impression on the nose with red to darker cherries, plums and an array of fresh leaves and herbs. The palate has seamless, finely grained tannins that carry a smooth array of fresh and juicy red-cherry flavor. Really holds the finish well. Try from 2021.” – 8 Jan, 2019
93+ Points – Vinous:
“The 2015 Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi is a powerful, bombastic wine. Smoke, leather, tobacco, dried flowers and menthol add an attractive savory edge to the dark Nebbiolo flavors in this muscular, virile Barolo. A wine with shoulders and breadth, the 2015 needs a few years to unwind, but if has quite a bit of potential. I imagine it will always remain a bit burly in its tannic structure and overall feel.” Antonio Galloni – (Feb 2019)
93 Points – Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
“Delicate scents of blue flowers and ripe berries with a whiff of camphor lead the way. The firm, full-bodied palate offers dried black cherry, licorice and tobacco framed in tightly woven, close-grained tannins that need time to unwind. Drink after 2025. Kerin O’Keefe” – (12/1/2019)
91 Points – Wine Spectator Magazine:
“An austere version, offering cherry and currant fruit, accented by earth, tobacco and menthol notes. Not that expressive now, with assertive, resonant tannins lining the finish. Best from 2023 through 2043. 725 cases made, 350 cases imported.” – BS (Issue Nov 30, 2019)
