This Merlot-led blend is sourced primarily from the Valadorna and Capraia blocks, which produce the estate’s most complex and mineral-based expressions of this variety. The blocks are located within the cooler part of the estate, naturally irrigated by the stream that undulates through it, and feature sandy brown soils and lower yields than typical. These blocks are often the last Merlot blocks to ripen on the estate.
Tasting Notes
With a brilliant red-black color, the 2009 Valadorna showcases aromas of cherry cola and ripe red fruits. On the palate, spice flavors combine with earth-driven minerality to produce a wine with freshness and finesse. With moderate acidity, the wine reveals a supple and elegant texture with a long lasting finish and nearly undetectable tannins. All components are in balance and come together to produce a stunning example of Merlot, reflecting the best of its complex Tuscan terroir.
