The founder of Compass Box, John Glazer, set up the company in 2000 because he felt too many people were selling whisky the same way. Thanks to his belief that blending creates something greater than the sum of its parts, Compass Box is now regarded as one of the great blending houses of the modern age. Their whiskies are all non-chill-filtered and without added colouring, regardless of whether it is a malt or grain whisky. The Great King Street range is named after the street in Edinburgh where Compass Box’s offices are located and contain a high percentage of single malt. The Glasgow blend is similar to the Artist Blend but with some added Islay malt, namely Laphroaig. A meaty nose with sweet cereal vanilla, but also a touch of smoke. The smoke is more apparant on the palate, but in a refined way. The hallmarks of the blend are still there, Christmas cake and buttery pastry. A clean finish with lingering smoke. Great in cocktails.
