Armagnac is the smaller cousin of Cognac, but although it doesn’t have the same global acclaim, the liquid is just as elegant and refined. While it can be made from up to 10 grape varietals, Delord uses just four. Single-distilled and at a lower ABV off the still, this makes for a very flavourful liquid. The ageing is done in cask and then transferred to glass demijohns. The XO expressions are usually aged for 10 years minimum – Delord’s XO is 15 years old. The nose has the classic rancio flavours, tobaccos, vanilla, honey. The palate reflects the nose big and juicy. Lots of honey, cocoa, toffee. The finish is luxurious and honeyed. One to be savoured after a fine meal.
