Established in 1948, Douglas Laing & Co is an independent bottler based in Glasgow. Big Peat is part of its Remarkable Regional Malts, a range of blended malts aimed at showcasing the remarkable qualities of each Scotch region’s malt whiskies. Big Peat focuses on the Islay region, and this particular expression is the 2019 release of its annual Christmas Edition. Made with malts from Islay, including Port Ellen, this is bottled at 53.1%. As the name suggests, expect BIG peat. The nose has cedar wood barbeque meats and hints of green apple. Smoke and soot, black pepper and some cooling mint on the palate. The finish is long and salty.
