Notes from the Winemaker:
Cuvée Centenaire takes its name from the 100 year-old vines of Grenache Blanc and Gris Jean-Marc Lafage farms just a few kilometers from the Mediterranean on gravelly clay soils. One of the greatest white wine values in our portfolio, the final wine blends these ancient grapes with up to 20% younger vine Roussanne. To make a wine that is both rich and balanced the grapes are harvested in two passes, the first when they just reach ripeness and are still high in acidity and a second pass when the grapes are fully ripe with rich fruit flavors. The wine is then aged in a combination of tank and new French oak barrels.
Variety: Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Roussanne
Aging: 4 months in tank (70%) and new French oak barrels (30%)
Ratings & Reviews
90-92 Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate:
“The 2015 Cotes du Roussillon Centenaire is a racy, medium-bodied blend of mostly Grenache Blanc (and Gris), with 20% Roussanne. Crushed rocks, mint, lime and citrus blossom are some of the nuances here, and it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, beautiful purity of fruit and a clean, dry finish. It’s certainly an outstanding white to enjoy. I’ve raved time and time again about the quality – and value – coming from Domaine Lafage’s Jean-Marc Lafage. A large estate that pulls from vines in the Agly Valley, the Aspres region, and vines around the estate and close the Mediterranean Sea, they’ve just completed work on a new, state of the art winery and cellar. I can only imagine the quality will continue to soar at this estate. ” – Jeb Dunnuck (27th Apr 2016)
