Notes from the Winemaker:
We are pleased to offer you our fourth release of Vin Perdu with the 2008 vintage. Once again, Heidi has masterfully blended small lots from some of our finest vineyard blocks to deliver a “magical” wine, primed to bring you five liters of mind-altering bliss and suspense.
The composition of Vin Perdu 2008 is derived from seven different lots from our Amuse Bouche, La Sirena, Barbour, Revana and Au Sommet vineyards. This year’s blend is Petit Verdot dominated (44%) with 39% Syrah, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc.
Because the quantities of the Vin Perdu components vary from year to year, each vintage is truly unique. We produced 12 barrels of this wine, enabling us to offer 250 five-liter jerobaums as well as some 750ml six packs.
Each 5 Liter jerobaum is endowed with Heidi’s signature. The 2008 artwork (the rabbit pops out of the wine bottle label and comes to life!) is enhanced by the use of our one-of-a-kind flip lenticular labels, using lenses to showcase moving visual images.

93 Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate:
The 2008 Vin Perdu bursts from the glass with dark red cherries, plums, violets, licorice and spices. All the elements come together beautifully in this dark, sumptuous wine. In 2008, the Vin Perdu is 44% Petit Verdot, 39% Syrah, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc. The Petit Verdot tannins provide the backbone, giving the wine tons of energy, vibrancy and pure length. This is a gorgeous wine. Frankly, in 2008 I prefer the Vin Perdu to the Amuse Bouche. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018.
Proprietor John Schwartz believes California is capable of making Merlots that can stand toe to toe with the best of France, so he is setting out to prove that point with the help of winemaker Heidi Barrett. Amuse Bouche is the main label. Vin Perdu is the second wine of Amuse Bouche, but the blend varies considerably from year to year, which naturally results in wines that are quite different from each other across several vintages.
