The Bitter Truth Celery Bitters have an amazing bouquet of flavors such as white grape, Sencha tea, lemon grass, celery leaf and fresh root ginger. It juggles artistically on the tongue as well, adding coriander seed, fresh celery and chicory to the foray. Add to a Red Snapper for the thinking person’s Bloody Mary. It’s obligatory with grassy spirits too, try a good measure in a Ti Punch or just a tickle in a gin and tonic for something to make the neighbors envious.A lost ingredient. Defunct for decades. This cocktail ingredient, which had already existed in the 19th century, enriches cocktails with unusual flavors. It’s ideal for traditional corpse-reviver cocktails such as the Bloody Mary, Bullshot and Prairie Oyster, as well as Martini Cocktails and the Gin & Tonic.

Put all ingredients in a longdrink glass on ice and fill up with tonic water.
Shake with ice & strain into a longdrink glass.

2-3 dashes The Bitter Truth – Original Celery Bitters
2-3 dashes Maraschino Liqueur
4-5 Mint Leaves
1 Slice of Cucumber
1 Lime Wedge Tonic Water
Put all ingredients in a longdrink glass on ice and fill up with tonic water.
BLOODY MARY
50 ml (1 1/2 oz) Vodka or Gin
3-4 dashes The Bitter Truth – Original Celery Bitters
10 ml (1/3 oz) fresh Lemon Juice
100 ml (3 oz) Tomato Juice
Tabasco, Worcestershire Sauce, Salt & Pepper
Shake with ice & strain into a longdrink glass.
CELERY MARTINI COCKTAIL
50 ml (1 1/2 oz) Gin or Vodka
20 ml (3/4 oz) Dry Vermouth

In his latest post for FineCooking, Camper English describes Celery as the hottest flavor in bitters since grapefruit. Celery Bitters were defunct for decades and were served as a tonic during the late 19th century and seemed to have improved manliness. So we can thing of some kind of liquid Viagra. Years ago we were attracted by this weird sounding history and flavor profile and decided to revieve this long lost ingredient and reinvented Celery Bitters which meanwhile was named “Best New Product†at the Tales of the Cocktail Sprited Awards 2010 in New Orleans.
We remember attending a workshop, held by Bols in Stuttgart/Germany, with special guests Wayne Collins and Naren Young, which was actually the very first presentation of this new kind of bitters. Wayne & Naren were immediately attracted by this new and unusual flavor and started playing around with it. The outcome was delicous in innovative, pushing the ordinary Gin & Tonic theme to new heigths.
